Discontinuation Notice

Bazaar Hound, the first mobile app for browsing/shopping on Open Bazaaar, has been shut down. Low usage of the service made it impossible to justify investment needed to migrate the app to work with OpenBazaar V2. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. Here are some statistics regarding the app:

  • Install Count (for all time): 2,644 (1,998 Android, 557 iOS, 89 WinPhone)

  • Unique Daily Users: ~20 throughout the life of the app, ~40 during the initial “peak interest”

  • Registered Users: 235 (people could use the app for free, but needed to register to make purchases)

  • Total “real” Purchases: roughly 10 (none for the 6 months prior to shutting down)

  • Monthly hosting costs: ~AUD$250

It has a pleasure to interact with the awesome people associated with the OpenBazaar project, we continue to wish the project every success for the future.

Features

  • Fast, Powerful Search: Bazaar Hound scans and indexes listings on the OpenBazaar network. You search for items using OpenBazaar @handles and search terms, Bazaar Hound will quickly return ranked results, ordered by relevance. Default filters exclude items not offered for sale in your region, and quick select options allow simple filtering using criteria such as “Category” or “Ships from”

  • Simple Purchase Flow: Click the “Buy” button and follow the simple steps to make a purchase, completing the payment using your preferred bitcoin wallet.

  • Monitor Purchases: Monitor purchases as they progress through the OpenBazaar purchase stages, such as “Fully funded”, “Shipped”. Review details of your previous purchases.

  • App Launch from Link: The app handles ob protocol hyperlinks from web pages such as ob://@my_shop, or ob://@mg_shop/listings/a12dd319 …

  • Zero Hassle Setup: Bazaar Hound shoppers need not install or maintain their own OpenBazaar node, they need only install the app on their mobile device.

  • Family Friendly and Free: Bazaar Hound must comply with the various app store rules regarding restricted, offensive and illegal items; consequently Bazaar Hound search results exclude listings found to be non-compliant. This also helps keep content displayed on the app family friendly.
